At the age of 46 my own trauma of losing a parent at the age of nine hasn’t gone away.

Instead, I use the tools of ACT to help me move through my painful emotions when they arrive. By using mindfulness and being open to my emotions I’m able to sit with my experience rather than try to avoid my pain.

Although Tara’s book isn’t focussed on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy/Training, the skill of acceptance is a key component of ACT.

In my own practice of using ACT I’ve found the concept of being accepting of my current situation and events profoundly life changing.

In fact, when I am struggling most it is because I’m not in a state of acceptance of my current emotions and thoughts.
