Finding Inspiration In The Face Of Difficulty

Each moment of each day you are busy doing something, even if you are sleeping, you’re doing something.

Your actions are driven by something even if that is just a reaction.

Some things that you do move you towards the type of person you want to be.

And sometimes the things that you do move you away from the type of person you want to be.

I find a common desire of my clients is to be an inspiring leader. And when things are going well; it is easy to be inspiring.

Announcing a big client win or kicking off an exciting project, in these times it is easy to overcome your fears and your negative thoughts.

But life isn’t a series of exciting, inspiring moments where it is easy for us to be who we want to be.

As you go about your day, all sorts of stressful situations will come up.

Perhaps you have to give critical feedback, manage conflict, or deal with a difficult colleague.

It is when life isn’t going so well for us that it is difficult for us to be who we want to be.

You’ll get hooked with painful emotions, worry, guilt, and fear. Along with unhelpful thoughts like – I’m not good enough, I’m not inspiring, and I can’t do this.

When life is difficult, we are more likely to choose actions that move us away from who we want to be.

It’s difficult to be an inspiring leader when we have to do something that feels uncomfortable.

But inspiring doesn’t mean you have to be shouting, full of positive energy, fist pumping the air to a crowd of loyal followers.

Inspiring may mean that you’re compassionate and caring. Helping people improve so they can be the best version of themselves.

Every day you’re faced with a thousand choice points where you can choose to be who you want to be or let your fears take you away from who you are.

Inspire comes from the Latin word Inspirare which means to breathe into, to impart a truth or idea to someone, to find divine guidance.

Next time you are faced with a difficult choice point, and you need to step up and be someone who you find it difficult to be.

Stop, take a breath and breathe into yourself, your inspiration lies within you.

Blow away your fears and be who you want to be.
